Starting Huckleberry Finn
A few days ago, we started reading Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. Right from the start, my class learned that Huck is a very young child with an abusive and often drunk father, was taken in as an orphan by an older woman, is very independent, and is a bit more realistic with his imagination. Huck and his group of friends created a sort of make-shift gang with an oath and whatnot, with most of the details being originated from stories of pirates and thieves. We also learned that the supposed leader of the gang was kind of overly-imaginative with his adventures, and even when they tried to steal things, the group often backed out. The only current acceptation being when they tried to raid a Sunday School Picnic, were caught by the teacher, and left with nothing. By the end of our time for reading, I learned that Huck's father had returned and was not happy about him going to school and learning to read. The story is quite interesting right now and I hope we get as far as we can into the book!
