Running Away
I find in very interesting in the novel how differently Huck and Jim go about running away, and how they both handle it differently. Their types of survival are also very different to each others. Huck is only running away to get to feel like he is free and independent but Jim is feared of being sold and shipped away. They both try to hide the best they can and not be found but Huck does not have to try as hard. In this time era if a slave is seen or found running away it would be a lot bigger of a deal then it would Huck. They both share the hope of being free and independent in the end.

I see what you are saying Huck has it easy compared to Jim. Huck gets got its like o your alive yay if jim is found he gets beat
ReplyDeleteI like this post and the fact that they are both just looking for freedom. Even though their circumstances are different they still are "sticking" to each other and Jim is in a way dependent on Huck but not because he is lazy but because he trusts Huck.
ReplyDeleteI think that it really is kind of interesting that Huck and Jim are together as a team, despite their very different reasons for running away from society.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great point! They're both searching for freedom, but if they get caught their repercussions will be incredibly different. Huck might get yelled at and told not to run off again whereas Jim might get beat and sold off.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of their running like that, but I also see things another way. Huck and Jim are kind of running for the same thing; freedom. And although they have different encouraging factors causing them to want to run, they're both after the same goal.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good comparison of their lives. I had not really thought about Huck running for freedom that he could really have anywhere, but Jim has to find somewhere to go that will not treat him as a slave.
