Huck continues to stay with his Pap even though he is clearly being abused by him. And he would rather stay in a relaxed environment than go live in more complex one with Widow Douglas.  She wanted him to have manners get an education and his Pap wanted him to be on the same level as him and not get an education past 8^th grade.
